Marianne Thoermer German, b. 1987

Marianne Thoermer (*1987, in Halle), who started out as a painter and gained international recognition during her art studies in Berlin and London, primarily with textile art, sometimes large-scale installations, has turned increasingly to the canvas again since the corona pandemic. Her intensive exploration of textiles, a wide variety of materials and media in particular characterize her painting style, which is particularly evident when looking at her most recent works. The interdisciplinary artist skillfully succeeds in transferring the enormous materiality of her three-dimensional textile works to the two-dimensional image.

The shapes and colors of her paintings appear organically interwoven, while her glass wax and textile works have an inherent painterly quality. The complex, fantastically abstract landscapes made of glass wax and textile applications evoke memories of organically grown natural forms, but can also evoke psychological states or subconscious feelings in the viewer and thus be interpreted as "inner" psychological landscapes.

On closer inspection, Thoermer's paintings seem to focus on capturing seemingly fleeting moments, which they are by no means, especially as they generate a strong emotional resonance in the viewer. People, interpersonal relationships, self-reflection and the search for and discovery of identity are at the heart of many of her works. Thoemer's works reflect on the past and the enduring, or the relationship between the past and the present.
